Good quality year round parks are hard to find. Just 900 metres from the warm waters of the Mediterranean and just 25kms from the vibrant Catalan city of Perpignan, we have discovered Camping Club Les Tamaris, a popular and high quality park with an excellent range of facilities. A 2000 square metre aquatic centre has recently been completed (at least one pool will be heated for 2009) and there is also a bar/restaurant and shop.
As well as the excellent beaches close by, Les Tamaris is also well situated for visiting the region, with the Spanish border and the stunning city of Carcassonne just an hour's drive away. And in the winter you could be on the ski slopes of the Pyrenees in 2 hours!

There's a real 'something for everyone' feeling around this part of Roussillon – close at hand you've all the fun of the fair, with Europark's big wheels and illuminations lighting up the warm night sky. The coast in either direction from your park is magnificent – and not short of silvery, soft sands. But for even more drama, head to the low-lying whisper of land known as L'ile aux oiseaux (Bird Island), an old sand-bank now stabilised with marram grass and home to colonies of seabirds.
Leisurely days exploring the foothills of the Pyrenees offer up all manner of different adventures, tantalisingly nearby. Park the car and take the 'little yellow train' up the slopes. Wherever you travel, you'll be amazed at the clarity and luminosity of the light, as it catches the Mediterranean, or bounces off the Salses and Leucate lakes – an inland sea, and a real hotspot for windsurfers and pleasure boats. Higher up the rivers rush through gorges, creating spectacular backdrops for all-day hikes into the surrounding countryside or, for those who want to get closer to the water, a thrilling chance to try a spot of canyoning.
Of course, with Spain so close (around 40km) you'll certainly want to explore Catalonia’s dramatic cliff top drives and preserved fishing villages so beloved of one-time resident, Salvador Dali. The region's other great export, of course, is its wine. Visit some vineyards, and sample the product - sweet Muscat, or rich and fruity Côtes du Roussillon for example.
